The Oenological Station was built in 1915 and was the first ampelographic and oenological station in Extremadura and the second in Spain.
The Oenological Station was built in 1915 and was the first ampelographic and oenological station in Extremadura and the second in Spain. It is a building of Neoclassical style which decoration is based on the use of elements that recreate ashlars, pilasters, vases, broken pediments, coats of arms, etc., combining colours like ochre and white.
Over the last few years, its facilities and instrumentation have been continuously modernised to achieve ENAC Accreditation (National Accreditation Body no. 551/LE 1187) for the main analytical parameters required.
It acts as a quality control body for the Extremadura wine sector and provides technological and analytical support to several central government administrations, like the Ribera del Guadiana Designation of Origin and to the countless wineries and private producers of local wines.
