CÍRCULO MERCANTIL

Built in 1924 under the direction of architect José López Sáez, who used the drawings of his colleague Aníbal González. Its exterior decoration is based on pilasters, moldings, bas-relief decoration and glazed ceramics, its interior has several rooms with tile baseboards and painted plaster moldings.

In 1654, Felipe IV issued a royal decree granting permission to establish the Franciscan convent of San Antonio de Padua in Almendralejo. It was considered one of the best convents at that moment, inhabited by 50 monks and with a capacity for 18 guests.

CONVENT AND CHURCH OF SANTA CLARA

The Convent and Church of Santa Clara were founded in 1702. It was built over the house of its founder, Leonor Golfín de Figueroa. Its construction has a baroque style, being considered a reliable trace of the artistic, social, political, and economic period to which the Convent belonged to.

NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LA PIEDAD¨S SANCTUARY

The Sanctuary of ‘Nuestra Señora de la Piedad’ is located at the top of the ‘Parque de la Piedad’ and has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. Its construction dates back to the beginning of the 16th century. The original image of ‘Nuestra Señora del Piedad’, who is the saint patron of the town, is located in a side niche of the nave.

The Devotional Museum is located next to the Sanctuary of ‘Nuestra Señora de la Piedad’. Its promoter was Mr. Tobías Medina Cledón, and it was inaugurated on August 15, 1995.

A 17th-century building located in the Plaza de España in Almendralejo. It is characterized by its white facade with gray details and a portico with semi-circular arches.

THE MONSALUD PALACE

THE MONSALUD PALACE

The Monsalud Palace was built in the mid-18th century, in 1752. The building is constructed around a central courtyard, decorated with wrought iron and Talavera and Sevillian tiles. Since 1983, it has been the headquarters of the Honorable Almendralejo City Council, and it is worth noting that on March 25, 1808, it witnessed the birth of the illustrious Spanish Romantic poet José de Espronceda.

MARQUIS OF LA ENCOMIENDA PALACE HOUSE

The Marquis of the Encomienda Palace House was built in the second half of the 18th century and is one of the most outstanding civil houses in the city. It consists of two floors and a central courtyard from which all the rooms are distributed. Its state of conservation is exceptional, thanks to the family members who have inhabited it since its construction.

It was built in the 16th century over a little chapel that belonged to the 15th century. From the original chapel it is only preserved one of the doors, in late Gothic style. The wall decoration of the church has a special interest because it is one of the most extensive covered pictorial spaces in Extremadura.

Built in the mid-19th century, it stands out not only for its great beauty and appeal but also because it is the only bullring in the world that houses a winery underneath its stands, something unique and of special historical value. It is declared a Cultural Heritage Site.

In 1895, a group of craftsmen from Almendralejo founded the ‘El Obrero Extremeño Society’, which was created for recreational and cultural purposes, with the guarantee of an economic fund to help each other in case of any social need. It was built in 1930.

CAROLINA CORONADO THEATRE

Carolina Coronado Theater owes its name to the Romantic poetess born in the same city. It was built in 1916, five years after the writer's death. In 2003, the interior of the theater was restored to its original appearance, as in the 1970s it had been exclusively adapted as a cinema hall. Now, you can once again enjoy a wonderful theater in its purest state, with its boxes, prosceniums, and stalls just as it was inaugurated in the early 20th century.
